In 7th grade science, students will be looking at four major questions:
Can I Make New Stuff From Old Stuff?
This question will be answered by studying various basic chemistry principles. We will look closely at what a chemical reaction is and how they work. We will also be learning how to construct scientific explanations of the answers to our questions.
Why Do Some Things Stop While Others Keep Going?
To answer this basic issue of physics, we will be looking at perpetual motion machines, Rube Goldberg devices, and various toys. We will also learn to conduct a fair experiment, by collecting measurements and analyzing the data using graphs.
How Does Food Become Energy for My Body?
During this unit we will look at the process through which a cracker becomes energy for your body. We will need to use our previous two units to understand the chemical reactions that the cracker becomes involved in, as well as the energy conversion is undergoes. We will also be refining our modeling skills during this unit.
How Do Storms Form?
In this unit we study what factors contribute to how a storm forms. We will work with live data from weather stations, analyze current storms, and learn to interpret weather maps.
