Storm Model - Lesson 4

High pressure systems are formed by the downward crush of cold, dense air. Low pressure systems form in warm regions where air is lifting off the ground. These low pressure systems are not only warm, but humid, since the sunlight tends to evaporate water. This warm wet air forms clouds as it rises, decompresses and cools. For this reason low pressure systems are associated with cloudy, rainy weather.
